TRACCE D'ARIA

Womenswear Spring/Summer 2025

The collection will be inspired by dance, particularly the idea of the body shattering the air during movement.

Dance is an ancient art form found in all cultures around the world. It can be ritual, social, performative, or a combination of these. In ancient civilizations, such as Egyptian and Greek, dance was often linked to religious ceremonies and celebrations. It represents an expression of emotion, as feelings and stories are conveyed through action.

In the early 20th century, modern dance emerged as a reaction against the rigid structures of classical ballet. Pioneers such as Isadora Duncan introduced freer and more natural movements, emphasizing personal expression and emotional connection. Duncan is known for developing a dance style that favored authenticity and fluidity of movement, inspired by sea waves and natural beauty. She danced barefoot, wearing light tunics that accentuated the fluidity of her gestures, promoting dance as a free expression of the soul.

When a dancer moves, his or her body shatters the air, creating vortices and currents that are invisible to the human eye but perceptible through movement. The resistance of the air provides a slight opposition that the dancer must overcome, adding a tactile dimension to the movement. This contrast between the body and the air can be visualized through the fluidity of the lines and shapes created during performance.

The interaction between the dancer's body and the air can be compared to a painter's brushstrokes on a canvas. Each movement leaves an imaginary “trace” in the air, creating an ephemeral work of art that exists only in the moment of execution. Dance, then, becomes a three-dimensional visual art involving not only the physical space occupied by the body, but also the surrounding void. This concept, explored by Isadora Duncan, sees dance as an expression of freedom and connection with nature.

The S/S 2025 collection explores the movement of the body in the air during dance. The goal is to capture the fluidity, lightness and beauty of movement, translating them into garments that evoke these qualities through the use of lightweight fabrics, transparencies and overlays. We see soft, light fabrics representing air, contrasted with the solidity of the physique through the use of fuller, bulkier materials. The shapes created give volume to the body, seen as the home of movement itself, and the garments generate a lively sense of dynamism.
